Hi everyone.
My company has a very decent pension scheme in Aegon (0.33% annual fee, good choice of funds) so it's been a no-brainer to salary sacrifice more into it than opening a SIPP since I also save the 2% NI contributions.
After looking on how it works for the company, I realised that my extra contributions have actually been saving the company some amount of money. These aren't real numbers, but assuming a £100k salary and a 15% additional pension contribution, the company saves £2070 (£100000*15%*13.8%) in NI contributions.
I've been meaning to ask them to pass on some (or all!) of these savings, since effectively this is money that they had already budgeted in my salary calculations. That said, I have no idea how common this is. Since my company is American and has no-one on the finance department working in the UK I'd like to get a sense of how reasonable the request is.
For people with pension salary sacrifice schemes, does your employer pass on the NIC savings?
Your vote: Yes (part of the savings)
