Avery admitted to Lenk and Remiker that he paid Halbach in his trailer. He subsequently drastically changed his story claiming he walked to the van and paid Halbach there. He subsequently screwed up and admitted to the press that she "came to be paid" forgetting to tell his lie that he went out to her. Bobby said he saw Halbach walking towards the door of Avery's trailer but before she got to the door he stopped watching. He further indicated that when he left she was not around in sight anywhere but her empty vehicle was still there. Where was she when Bobby was leaving?
