Redditors,
As mentioned before, there is a large chunk of money going to John Dehlin through Mormon Stories to fund an awareness campaign in Utah, assuming Jeremy Runnells is excommunicated in March. It's important to reiterate WHY we're doing it since it seems some have already speculated on the intent.
This is NOT an "anti-mormon" campaign nor is it meant to lead members of the church out who are happy with the way things are. It is a genuine search for both truth and a bid for understanding on all sides. Many of us, both active and inactive, who have expressed these same concerns or chosen a different path are often marginalized, discounted or shunned by believing family, friends and acquaintances. That has taken an enormous emotional toll and thousands of otherwise good and decent people.
Those persecuting us in person, on social media and behind our backs are either unaware of those topics, know a correlated version of those facts or know the full detail and are willing to follow their feelings despite the evidence presented. Jeremy was asked by the CES Director to list his concerns about church history, and he did. Several years have passed and he and thousands of us are still waiting for answers. Jeremy is, by proxy, a representative of many, but not all of us who are trying to either maintain membership in the church and/or relationships with friends and family.
To see that those sincere questions, despite being publicly posed, are now being used as a means to potentially excommunicate him is a wake up call that we may be next. This cause is just and our time is now to make our voices heard.
