A good friend's wedding is in a few days and my gf and I are prepping for the trip, including our gift which is in the ~$400 range considering we're in NYC. I used to give cash before it was suggested as not being very 'safe' (getting lost, stolen or what-have-you -- albeit very unlikely in my mind), so lately I've given $ in prepaid Visa cards instead. Its Visa so its accepted mostly everywhere, and it even comes with a degree of buyer protection.. although after discussing the matter with my gf, she feels that prepaid cards borders on "tacky". I get that cash is flat-out easier to deal with, but I guess I'm just trying to play it smart.. nevertheless, I'm at a bit of a loss at which is more appropriate. What do you guys think?
