My friend and I were having a heated debate on whether the discovery of a teleportation device will be made first, or a portal such as the portal game would happen. We couldn't convince the other to settle the answer so I made this poll to get answers from you all and see who's side would take more favor.
The assumptions are:
1. both are both 'feasible' to achieve in the future
2. no supernatural or alien technology
3. humans still exist and live in 'as-is' today socially and politically
the debates of both side:
Teleport (me): based on the technology of what we have and what we know, we just need more advancement in incremental to reach the discovery of a teleportation device. For example, you need to know how to disassemble atoms, transfer it, and reassemble it; while we know how decoding-transfer through internet-recoding works, how atoms work, and we are making more advancements.
Portal (him): we have theories on wormholes and blackholes; once we discover one, or man-make one, and figure out how to cross them; we can put in resource to discover and develop how to create a working portal.
tl;dr-
Teleportation:
+we know more stuff about it today than portal
+technology is advancing
-more steps
-costly
-less efficient
Portal:
+less step
+more efficient
-less knowledge
-dependent on discovery
Your vote: Portal (stable dimension opener)
