An American told me that I was wrong to think that the majority of Australia refers to budgies as just that; budgies. So now I'm curious, is there actually a reasonable amount of people who use the American-English term "parakeet" instead of the Australian-English "budgie"? I've only ever heard people use the latter, with the exception of the occasional foreigner.
