To make a long story short, I have been working on obtaining the components for my dream cinema, and recently had a birthday. I shared several wish lists and ended up getting an item I was not expecting (TX-NR676) after ordering its newer little brother (TX-NR585) on my own.
The bottom line is, I need to return one of these AVR's. I understand I have 2 different generations of devices here but I have read conflicting results regarding the TX-NR676 having better overall audio fidelity, and some possibly early reports stating the newer, lower-end model TX-NR585 did not naitively support Atmos or DTS-X.
I'm wondering what you think! Should I keep the newer but less powerful TX-NR585 or go with last years higher-end model the TX-NR676? I'm not decided yet whether to run an atmos/DTS-X setup with height channels (5.1.2) or keep it traditional 7.1 surround. I like having the opportunity to try things out as I go. Not interested in using any second zone features or additional room audio. This is dedicated to the cinema room with 90% movies and 10% music content consumption.
Please let me know which Onkyo AVR you would keep on to if you were me and for what reasons. Thanks!
