Ever notice how many Western radio hosts/social media personalities/interviewers will hype up the Army as being extremely diverse with fans of all ages and genders? Compared to other Kpop groups and especially boy bands, then yes, they do have a bigger share of fans that are diverse in those categories but their biggest demographic are easily girls/young women. There is nothing wrong with that (I do fall into that demographic as well), the target audiences of boy bands are girls after all but I can't help but slightly cringe when interviewers overexaggerate it and make it seem like fans who don't fall in young women/girl demographic aren't in the minority. We know boy bands are often devalued because our society dismisses their fanbases as "hormonal teenage girls" so I feel like the reason they hype ARMYs as being extremely diverse is to make the statement that BTS aren't like other boy bands.
