I’m trying something new that I hope people will like here on the sub!
Wizards has come out with various Masters sets, and I have always thought it would be fun to make my own. So, with your help, we’ll make a fantastic Masters set, and then draft it when we’re done! I’ll be doing most of the heavy lifting, but you all will help make the decisions.
Note that this is a custom Masters set — but, being a Masters set, **there are no custom cards, only reprints.** The only other rules are it must use only black-bordered cards, use nothing on the Reserved List, and follow modern draft philosophy and set size.
**#1 Choose a Theme**
For this Masters set, we can to have a theme to help guide us through the design. The last few Wizards has done has included *Masters 25.* where at least one card from each set was reprinted, and *Iconic Masters,* which featured some of Wizards most iconic creatures and cards.
I’ve narrowed down 5 options for possible themes, and I’ll explain a little of each one below:
**Adventure World**
Much like *Dungeons & Dragons* and similar role-playing games, the emphasis here with this theme is probably on creatures and equipment. Among possibilities for mechanics, this could include Renown, Level Up or Monstrous. There could also be themes around treasure, gold, or other rewards.
**Card Types**
Each color will care about a card type, and cards in that color pie will help to support it. For example, maybe Green would care more about creatures, while Red might care about artifacts, and White for enchantments. These could be combined, or mixed up a little from the norm.
**Magic vs. Muggles**
The idea behind this theme is that there are magic users (like Wizards, Clerics, Druids and Shamans) and “muggles,” or non-magic users (like Beasts, Cats, Warriors and Zombies). Perhaps auras would align more toward magic users, whereas equipment would be more non-magic users.
**Steampunk**
Steampunk would likely borrow heavily from existing sets that focus on Izzet flavor, Kaladesh artifact themes and the Mirrodin plane. Vehicles, artifacts matter, and a more industrial feel would help reinforce this theme.
**Tribes**
Tribes would be 10 tribes of races and classes. This might be similar to Lorwyn in general nature, but would try to incorporate different creature types than what had been done in the past.
Please vote below with your choice. I’ll leave the pool up for about 48 hours.
