If you could see what the Overseer looks like, through short clips, or through images as they're playing their holotapes, would you be ok with the way the main story is told? Or would it not make a difference, and you's still be upset at the fact that you don't come face-to-face with the NPCs?
Personally, it doesn't "help" gameplay like the designers intended. For my experience, listening to a tape as I'm trying to kill some wolves that are 35 levels higher than me did NOTHING to me, and after I was done killing the wolves (or if they killed me, which is more likely), you could ask me what the tape said and I couldn't tell you AT ALL, even if you had a gun held to my face.
My theory: The designers that thought of this LOVE to listen to Audiobooks or Podcasts, and are able to do like 5 things at a time, while listening to it.
I personally can't. Even if I'm sitting down, alone, without any distractions, it's difficult to actually visualize an Audiobook. I'm a much more Visual Learner, than an Auditory one. THAT'S why I play video games. lol
So what do you think? Would it have made the experience a lot better if you could SEE the Overseer, but still do her missions purely by Holotapes?
Moreover, what if you could see the other NPCs that you do missions for, as well?
