There are two types of manga translations: ones that try to stick as closely as possible to the original and ones that "adapt" it for English readers, like changing Japanese names and titles to English ones as well as changing settings from Japan to the US. The disadvantage of the former is that some English readers not interested in Japanese culture may not be interested, whereas the latter may turn off people who want to know the original creator's meaning.
