Hello all,
TLDR: Which rat do you think has the best design?
First off I apologize if this is not the right subreddit for this type of question. I am just trying to get a feel for what kind of art style might appeal to people for the game I'm developing. If anyone can direct me to a more appropriate subreddit I will kindly delete this post and move my poll where it belongs.
So I have been working on making a turn-based action-command RPG (aka Paper Mario combat) for a couple of years now in my spare time. I have the combat and GUI menu system pretty much perfected and I am now finally ready to start addressing the non-programming parts of the game.
One of the main settings of the game is going to be a medieval kingdom inhabited by a society of animals where the player will start off as a rat and will subsequently class change to more and more powerful animals. I have commissioned a sprite artist to make a sprite sheet for this initial rat character and there is an example strip below.
My dad (a now retired professional artist) offered to design some characters for me when I was in college a few years ago. I declined at the time, but my wife and I recently played Cuphead and it made me reconsider my dad's offer. The numbered images below are what he has come up with. He did not know there was a medieval theme when making these so in one design you can see he incorporated more modern clothing but he can easily switch to a proper aesthetic.
I would greatly appreciate it if you would vote on this poll and let me know which art style you think looks most appealing.
Thank you.
