Hi,
I'm Arni. I lurk this subreddit mostly, but post every now and then. I'm a web designer by trade (among other things). I've always wanted to setup a United blog/website. Just because the official site is utter crap. I started designing a new one in 2009, but life got in the way, so now I'm thinking of giving it another shot.
Back then, I wanted to write articles, but now I'm not so sure I'm going to have the time (as I also run my own company). So if anyone is interested in guest posting on a United site, let me know.
When I met my significant other a couple of years ago, she knew not much about football and nothing about United. So I wished there was a site that acted as a beginner's guide to United. Or at least just a page on 'a brief history of United' that has an interactive timeline with videos and graphics of key moments in our history. As well as a breakdown of the competitions we're involved in. That might make my life easier when I hear: "What match is this then? Didn't you play that team last week? And I'm like: "Yeah but that was in the cup" etc.
What I'm really here to ask though before I get started, is what would make you visit a new United site? Personally, I get most of my aggregated news from Reddit/BBC/Twitter. I don't read as many opinion pieces as I used to, but do enjoy a good United read every now and then.
From a data and design perspective I love http://www.arsenalreport.com/ and think a United version of this would be great. Although quite a big undertaking. I also thoroughly enjoy the content from http://unitedrant.co.uk. Who knows, I could even setup a podcast in the future if we're getting enough traffic.
I think the greatest club in the world deserves a quality website and I like the idea of getting input from Redditors. Kind of like a site for the people, by the people. Failing all of that, I'd probably just get a kick out of designing a United themed website, just for the love of it. So please let me know what you'd like to see on our site.
