This is a topic that has been discussed widely on our Discord server over the past couple of weeks, and I thought I would make a poll/post about it here to bring it to the attention of the folks who aren't in our server or don't use Discord.
Our leaderboards currently use the "confetti" standard to determine when the fight is finished, meaning that the time remaining on the fight is measured when the boss recoils and confetti appears. On the other hand, some groups use the "disappearing button" standard to say that the fight ends when the flee/switch Pokemon buttons disappear from the screen. After this point, no attacks can be made, so it gives perhaps a more accurate account of when the boss is actually dead. This often occurs several seconds before the confetti.
Some potential positives of switching to the "disappearing button" standard:
* Raiders aren't as heavily penalized by the quality of their equipment
* Raiders don't have to wait until the boss animation finishes until the fight is over
Some potential drawbacks of this switch:
* It is sometimes hard to tell whether the buttons disappear if the raid team faints or the raid "times out" at the end of the fight. To this end, we would use the confetti standard as a "backup" in cases where what happens is unclear.
* The confetti standard is more common and used more widely by other (especially local) communities.
* It would require us to re-watch all of the submitted videos and mark them with updated times. (Okay, maybe this is more of a drawback for us than for you.)
I want to note that this poll is really just to get a feel for people's preferences, and we're not committing to making the transition even if the new idea gets more votes (especially if it's close). The admin/moderation team will ultimately have the final say. Also, you won't be required to re-submit videos; we'll figure out an efficient way to update if that's the way we decide to go.
Please discuss in the comments. We appreciate your feedback and participation.
