As this sub moves on from the after glow of Touch's release, and the deluge of content that is it's consequence, I see new (read: old) topics making their way to the forefront.
The question of locomotion in virtual reality once again rears it's head, as well as the usual arguments both for, and against the predominant viewpoints, in VR's CURRENT state of development.
One camp states that it is inherently irresponsible and detrimental to the future of VR to create content that is likely to make the user uncomfortable and/or sick, and ultimately averse to VR as an entertainment/gaming platform.
The other camp states that is inherently irresponsible and detrimental to the future of VR to create content that stifles immersion (the very purpose of virtual reality) by either requiring you to teleport into different zones as a means of traversing your virtual environment, or limiting that environment to a few dozen virtual square feet.
A smaller, but still relevant subset of these two factions maintains that these two solutions cannot reliably co-exist without potentially compromising the game/experience's design, difficulty, and/or fun factor.
I believe that the users of /r/oculus (and other VR subs on the periphery) are currently of a significant size and diversity, to if not quantitatively, at least relatively, reflect the percentage of the current core demographic (early adopters), who have an averse reaction to artificial locomotion, as well as it's level of severity.
I realize this will not settle the argument, nor should it; it may even create a few new wrinkles. But all opinions are welcome and needed, including those from /r/vive users, and any other lesser used subs pertaining to VR. Please try to play nice, and understand that regardless of the outcome of the poll, every opinion holds some merit, as we are all in this together, and that we as a community, will inevitably be the minority when virtual reality finally goes mainstream. At that time, conditions and technologies will have likely changed radically, and so the core demographic as well.
Finally note that while there are more "yes" options than "no" options, that is only because it is important to understand not just "if" this affects a significant fraction of the sample size, but by what degree it affects that sample. It should not skew the poll in favor of one position or another, simply clarify the actual mass condition. Please thoughtfully consider your answer and be honest with yourself :)
TL;DR This is a not-entirely scientific poll to gauge the current state of the community's susceptibility to VR sickness as may or may not be induced by artificial locomotion. Please be honest :)
