There are seemingly no consequences whatsoever for referees that do a terrible job. Of all the referees that are available in the pool, they assigned three of the most criticized referees they have for this incredibly important game 3 of the WCF tonight. Personally, I find it hard to believe that the league would be this unresponsive to such a persistent issue.
Do you think that they are basically being blackmailed at this point, probably by the mafia or it's agents?
How much damage would it do to the NBA if it became public that the mafia has been involved in comprehensive gambling rigging of NBA games? It doesn't necessarily have to be win/loss, could just be to cover the spread, for example. What if this was going on for decades? What extent would the league be willing to go to, to prevent the integrity of the history of the game?
There is no sensible explanation for why the league hasn't addressed a personnel issue like this. Perception is reality for officiating issues - why wasn't Foster fired after all the Donaghy revelations? It makes no sense. Even if he was innocent, from a business perspective, it made sense for the league to distance themselves from these damaging facts (the volume of contact between Donaghy and Foster before and after games).
Are NBA results are being influenced? Is the league is too scared of the consequences of this going public to take action against it? What do you think?
