During its legendary original broadcast, TMoHS Part 6 was the series' sci-fi-action-romance filled conclusion.
The chronological broadcast was the muted, Nagaru Tanigawa styled (he wrote the episode!) Someday in the Rain.
Now I have been torn between these two as to which has become the finer finale episode.
TMoHS Part 6 has the episode centered around our two main stars, with the supporting cast screaming at Kyon to make a "move". And goddamn, does he do it! Delivering, in my bias Haruhiism, the finest pick up line in anime history.
In stark contrast, we have Someday in the Rain. Haruhi taking pictures of Mikuru (with the help of Itsuki) and Yuki left alone to read, forcing Kyon to pick up a heater. Mundane, slow paced, and truly slice of life. After an extraordinary series of events, how dare they end the season with ordinary and boring?
My 12 year old self (which I was during 2006) was easily captivated by TMoHS Part 6. But now, 24 years old, I've grown very fond of Someday in the Rain. My taste in anime has surely gravitated towards slice of life (e.g Oregairu, Shirobako, March Comes in Like a Lion), and all the little intracies that I've found during rewatches puts Someday in the Rain as my vote.
Oh, and the episode's song is superior to the likes of God Knows and Itsumo no Fuukei.
But, I digress.
